How Geofenced Attendance Works for Field and Multi-Site Staff

Geofenced attendance ties the check-in to a location on a map, not a device on a wall. Here is how GPS verification works for field, multi-site, and office staff.

Attendance software was built for a workplace that no longer describes most teams. A single fixed door with a fingerprint reader assumes everyone reports to the same building at the same time. Field technicians, delivery staff, site supervisors, and multi-branch teams don't — they start the day at a client site, a warehouse, or a different branch each week. Geofenced attendance is the answer to that shape of work: instead of anchoring attendance to one device on one wall, it anchors it to a location on a map.

What geofenced attendance is

A geofence is a virtual boundary drawn around a physical place — a circle of a set radius around an office, a client site, or a project location. Geofenced attendance ties the check-in action to that boundary. Staff open a mobile app and mark attendance; before the record is saved, the system reads the device's GPS position and confirms it falls inside an approved geofence. If it does, attendance is recorded with a timestamp and the location it was verified at. If it doesn't, it isn't recorded as verified attendance. The rule is simple and auditable: the mark is only kept when the device was inside a site you approved.

How the location check records attendance

  1. 01Set the sites. An admin defines each approved location and a radius around it. One site or fifty — an office, every branch, and each active project can be its own geofence.
  2. 02Staff check in from the app. On Haazri, an employee opens the Android app or the web app and taps to mark attendance at the start of the shift.
  3. 03The device reports its position. The app reads the phone's GPS coordinates at the moment of check-in.
  4. 04The boundary is verified. The system compares those coordinates against the approved geofences and only accepts the mark when the device is inside one.
  5. 05The record is stored. A verified check-in is written with its timestamp, ready to roll into shifts, leave, and payroll.

Why it fits field and multi-site staff

  • No hardware at the door. There is no fingerprint or face scanner to buy, mount, or maintain at every site — the phone your staff already carry is the terminal. That is the difference that makes distributed attendance affordable.
  • Attendance follows the worker. A technician is verified at a client's premises, a supervisor at whichever branch they open that morning, a sales rep at a customer location — each against the geofence that matches where they actually are.
  • Office staff use the same system. A head-office team checks in against the office geofence; nobody runs a separate process for desk workers versus field workers.
  • One record, downstream. Verified attendance feeds shifts and roster, leave including half-day, and payroll from CTC to net — so a day marked in the field lands in the same month-end run as everyone else's.

GPS is a boundary check, not a tracker

Geofenced attendance verifies a device's location at the moment of check-in — it is not continuous tracking, and it is only as precise as the phone's GPS. Accuracy drifts indoors and between tall buildings, so radii should be set with a sensible margin rather than a tight few metres. It removes the biometric hardware, not the need to configure sites thoughtfully. Do we need biometric devices for geofenced attendance?

No. Geofenced attendance uses the location of the mobile device the employee already carries. There is no fingerprint or face-scan hardware to install at any site — the check-in and the location verification both happen in the app.

Does it work for staff who move between different sites?

Yes — that is the main case it is built for. Each office, branch, or project can be its own approved geofence, so a worker is verified against wherever they are assigned that day. Office teams check in against the office boundary using the same app.

What happens if someone checks in from outside the approved area?

The location check fails, so the mark is not recorded as verified attendance. Because the boundary is checked before the record is written, the stored log only ever contains check-ins that happened inside an approved site.
